 PADI Seal Team
Cost: $160

The PADI Seal Team program is an exciting underwater activity-filled introduction to the world of diving. The PADI Seal Team program gives youngsters a chance to explore the underwater realm on scuba and experience adventure, discovery and thrills. It also provides parents or guardians with a structured program that lets their children develop skills, learn about the aquatic realm, and have a lot of good, clean fun in a noncompetitive environment.

To become an official members of the PADI Seal Team, participants must complete the first five of 15 AquaMissions. These activities develop fundamental scuba skills and knowledge, while preparing kids for further adventure.

Participants learn about diving by watching the PADI Seal Team video, through the PADI Seal Team AquaMission Activity Book, and during predive briefings with their PADI Instructor. Each AquaMission consists of a briefing, a skill session, and a game or activity. Completing the pool dive and answering challenge questions in their PADI Seal Team AquaMission Logbooks earns young divers an AquaMission decal.

Finishing AquaMissions 1-5, which is equivalent to completing the skills in Confined Water Dive One from the Open Water Diver Course, means youngsters are PADI Seal Team members. Receiving a PADI Seal Team member card and wall certificate recognizes their accomplishments and allows them to work toward PADI Master Seal Team recognition.

Prerequisites:
• Children must be 8 years old before the first day of class and comfortable in the water
• Parents must complete and sign a PADI Seal Team Statement and Assumption of Risk and Liability Release Agreement prior to class. Medical approval may be required by some.

Materials
• PADI Seal Team Crew Pak (included in cost of class)

• All equipment is included in the cost of class

 Boy Scouts: Scuba Award

SCUBA BSA introduces qualified Boy Scout, Venturing, and registered adult participants to the special skills, equipment, and safety precautions associated with scuba diving. The program encourages aquatic activities that promote fitness and recreation and provides a foundation for those who later will participate in more advanced underwater activity.

The Scuba BSA experience contains two parts: Knowledge Development and Water Skills Development. During the first part, participants learn basic dive safety information and overview skills, such as mask clearing, regulator clearing, and alternate air source use.

Completion of Scuba BSA requirements sets the stage for additional training, but does not qualify the participant to dive independently, either in confined water or open water environments. Scuba BSA is not a diver certification, it's an experience.

Individuals completing the SCUBA BSA requirements qualify for a recognition card and patch. Y-kiki Divers PADI instructor(s) will complete the award applications for each troop member and the counselor or unit leader can then submit to the local council service center.

Y-kiki Divers will supply all scuba equipment: mask, snorkel, fins, tank, regulator, BCD, wetsuit, and weight belts.

 Boy Scouts: Scuba Merit Badge

Boy Scouts! If you've already earned your BSA Scuba Award, what's next? Consider earning your Scuba Merit Badge! You will earn your PADI Open Water Scuba certification and open the door to new underwater adventures.

Unlike many other merit badges, the Scuba Diving prerequisites, knowledge, and skills are not all itemized in the requirements of the merit badge pamphlet. Interested scouts must first earn their Open Water Scuba certification through Y-kiki Divers or another scuba agency recognized by the Boy Scouts of America scuba policy in addition to completing the following requirements (which can be found in the merit badge pamphlet):

Scuba Merit Badge Workshops! Get in the know!

Curious about the Boy Scout Scuba Diving Merit Badge? Unlike many other merit badges, the Scuba Diving Merit Badge requires scuba certification from a recognized training agency as one of the key components to earning the badge. Join Y-kiki’s workshop to learn all the requirements for both the Scuba Diving Merit Badge as well as the requirements and process for becoming scuba certified. Attendees DO NOT need to be scuba divers to attend the work shop. Already certified? A Scuba Merit badge counselor will be on-hand to help start or finish the Scuba merit badge process, if interested. Refreshments will be served. Please RSVP.

Workshop Dates & Locations:

Feb. 13, 2018, Tues., 6:30 p.m.

Y-kiki Divers West County

April 19, 2018, Thurs., 6:30 p.m.
Y-kiki Divers West County

June 19, 2018, Tues., 6:30 p.m.
Y-kiki Divers South County

Requirements

1. Do the following:

a. Show that you know first aid for injuries or illnesses that could occur while scuba diving, including hypothermia, hyperventilation, squeezes, decompression illness, nitrogen narcosis, motion sickness, fatigue, overexertion, heat reactions, dehydration, injuries by aquatic life, and cuts and scrapes.

b. Identify the conditions that must exist before performing CPR on a person, and explain how to recognize such conditions. Demonstrate the proper technique for performing CPR using a training device approved by your counselor.

2. Before completing requirements 3 through 6, earn the Swimming merit badge.

3. Discuss the Scuba Diver’s Code with your merit badge counselor, and explain the importance of each guideline to a scuba diver’s safety.

4. Earn an Open Water Diver Certification from a scuba organization recognized by the Boy Scouts of America scuba policy.

5. Explain what an ecosystem is, and describe four aquatic ecosystems a diver might experience.

6. Find out about three career opportunities in the scuba industry. Pick one and find out the education, training, and experience required for this profession. Discuss this with your counselor, and explain why this profession might interest you.

NOTES:
Scuba industry standards for Open Water Diver Certification require the student to be at least 15 years of age. Students under the minimum age who meet open water scuba performance requirements may qualify for a special certification that allows them to dive with an adult buddy who has, as a minimum, an open water scuba certification. Several of the scuba organizations recognized by the BSA offer “junior” open water certifications for those as young as 10; others have a minimum age of 12. Such junior open water diver certifications satisfy Scuba Diving merit badge requirement 4.

Scouts who have already earned an Open Water Diver Certification outside of a BSA activity from a scuba agency recognized by the Boy Scouts of America scuba policy may still earn the Scuba Diving merit badge by earning the Swimming merit badge and completing all other listed requirements.

Advanced Astronaut Training Camp
Age: 10-13 years old
Session 1: July 17-21, 2017
Session 2: July 24-28, 2017

In this unique and popular camp, participants will experience what it would be like to train as a real NASA astronaut. Activities will include mental and physical challenges as well as design competitions. In addition, advanced astronauts will learn basic SCUBA diving skills that will enable them to participate in a one-day underwater spacewalk training simulation. SCUBA training and gear are included in this camp.

Aquatic Robotics
Age: Ages 12 and up
Session 1: June 26 - 30, 2017 (Pattonville High School)
Session 2: July 17-21, 2017
(Challenger Learning Center)
Make a splash this summer! Using devices such as soldering irons, rotary drills and lots of perseverance, participants will learn basic robotics and build their own custom SeaPerch underwater rover/ROV.  They will then learn the basics of SCUBA and participate in a specially designed human/robot hybrid “weightless” mission.

To register for these camps, click on the class links above or, for more details, check out the Challenger Learning Center's website.

All equipment is included. At the end of the program, participants will receive a PADI Seal Team member card and wall certificate.

PADI Open Water Scuba Training
There are three steps to earning a PADI Open Water Diver certification:
1. Classroom/knowledge development
2. Pool/confined water dives
3. Open water training dives (can be completed locally or on vacation anywhere in the world)

With this week-long program, participants can complete the classroom/knowledge development AND/OR the pool/confined water. Participants will learn how to build-up the scuba unit, practice various entries & exits, establishing neutral buoyancy, how to clear the mask of water while underwater, how to handle out-of-air emergencies (just in case!) and a whole lot more. This camp is perfect for youth who participated in the Seal Team Camp last year, adults who want more time than what a traditional scuba course offers OR anybody looking to get scuba certified this summer! All course materials and equipment is included.

We'll discuss the students' options to complete the open water training dives (additional charge) at camp.

Participants will need to register with Parkway-Rockwood Community Ed. Immediately following registration, contact Y-kiki Divers at at (314) 469-8722.
