It's been too long since we've put together a Great Lakes dive trip! So, we reached out early and have scheduled a summer dive getaway to Milwaukee diving with Shipwreck Adventures. With four scheduled dives we're hoping to get the most out of our wreck diving adventure.
Join Y-kiki Divers as we head to Lake Michigan!
We'll meet at Y-kiki Creve Coeur on Friday and load up in the Y-kiki passenger van. We'll be towing the shop trailer and we can take tanks, gear & luggage. It will take us 5 1/2 to 6 hours to get to the hotel.
We'll be staying at the Ambassador Hotel (double occupancy) located in downtown Milwaukee. We've got two morning boat dives planned and two dives for the afternoon charter. We'll enjoy a group dinner Saturday night and then, Sunday, two morning boat dives before heading back to St. Louis.
There are numerous wrecks within the recreational dive depths near Milwaukee. Our exact dives will be vary on our divers' interest AND weather conditions. While divers can dive the Great Lakes in a wetsuit, water temps range in the 38-42 degree range and we highly recommend a drysuit for comfort. In addition, some of the possible wreck sites are deeper... below 100ft. We'll be staying above the recreational dive limits for this trip, but we recommend Advanced Open Water as the minimum certification.
Conditions in July:
Air temps in the 90s
Surface water temps in the upper 60s. Water at depth 38-42 degrees.
Potential dive sites:
Wisconsin - Depth 90-130 feet. Advanced. 209' iron steamer. Lost October 2929 with 9 of 68 passengers. Some penetration possible for properly trained, equipped and experience divers.
Car Ferry Milwaukee - Depth 90-125 feet. Advanced. 338' Railroad Card Steamer. Lost October 2929 with all 52 people on board. Consider: Frequently low vis (about 15') with some entanglement hazards.
Prins Willem V - Depth 48-90 feet. Advanced. 250' steel freighter. Lost October 1954 with all hands saved. Very popular wreck. Penetration possible for properly trained, equipped and experienced divers.
Note: Weather is usually good in the summer, but it is not inconceivable to encounter 4-6 foot swells and, occasionally, the charter will cancel diving due to conditions. Motion sickness is a real possibility. Plan accordingly. Of course a drysuit is strongly recommended.

Sunday: 2-dive morning charter
