Please note! This is an "Advanced Diving" trip. This trip is not for beginner divers. Prerequisites: PADI Advanced Open Water Diver or equivalent and a minimum of 30 dives. We suggest the following certifications in order to maximize your "Mighty O" trip: Enriched Air, Deep Diver, Wreck Diver, and Self Reliant Diver (or equivalent ratings).

If your friends consider you a “Just Add Water” diver this trip is for you!

Y-kiki continues with its Advanced Series of Dive Trips now offering a 3 day diving expedition to the USS Oriskany. The Oriskany is the only Aircraft Carrier which is accessible to recreational divers and the easiest of any to travel to.

The Mighty-O, sometimes called the O-Boat, or the Toasted-O by her crew, was honorably sunk in May of 2006 as an artificial reef after earning 2 battle stars in the Korean War and 5 in the Vietnam war.

She got nicknamed the Toasted-O in 1966 when she experienced the worst shipboard fire since WWII when a magnesium flare was accidently ignited and forty-four men died in the fire. The damage of this fire is still apparent on deeper dives to the Hangar Deck (technical diving only).

We will be traveling by car on Sept. 19, 2012, and arriving late in the afternoon or early evening in Pensacola, Florida. On the morning of Sept. 20, 2012, we will make our first forage into the Gulf of Mexico arriving at the Mighty-O around 9:30 a.m. Recreational divers will make two dives on the “Island” of the aircraft carrier at depths of 80-130 fsw. Technical divers may make one or two dives, but must file and follow dive plans submitted to the crew.

The flight deck is no longer accessible to recreational divers as it begins at 140fsw.  It is generally visible from recreational levels and is many times thought to be ocean floor due to is vastness. However, the ocean floor is still 70 feet deeper in 210-220 fsw.

Top of Smokestack: 84 feet
PriFly:
105 feet
Navigation Bridge: 124 feet
Flag Bridge: 134 feet

Flight Deck: 146 feet

Please note! This is an "Advanced Diving" trip. This trip is not for beginner divers. The Mighty O is 30 miles offshore and while conditions are generally mild, it can get rough.

Talk with your friendly Y-kiki staff about scheduling these classes before your trip.
