Contest Rules

  • Divers will need to bring their own pumpkin, carving tools (pumpkin carving tools only), mesh bag for collection of pumpkin guts and, of course, all your own dive gear.
  • While you may carve as many pumpkins as you like, each participant is allowed only one pumpkin entry per diver into the contest.
  • NEW RULE: To maintain good visibilty, Glen Faith, owner of Mermet Springs, is asking us to gut our pumpkins on land before getting the water. All subsequent carving must be completed underwater.
  • You are not allowed to draw your design out on the pumpkin prior to submerging. Designs sketched on a slate or laminated designs are acceptable.
  • For safety reasons, pumpkin carving tools ONLY are allowed - no diving knives.
  • To ensure safety and accountability, divers are required to check-in and check-out with the Beachmaster in buddy teams.
  • In the event that lightning is seen in the area, we will recall all divers. The diver recall will be a continuous banging on a scuba cylinder. If you hear the recall, please make your way to the surface and exit the water as quickly as possible in your buddy teams. Mermet staff will also make an announcement over the underwater speaker system.
  • Once you are happy with your pumpkin, please see the Pumpkin Judges to enter your pumpkin into the contest. Feel free to add additional props, lights, etc. to your pumpkin at this point.
  • Pumpkins must be entered at the judging table by 4:30 p.m. Awarding of prizes starts at 5 p.m.
  • Group photo at 4:45 p.m.
  • Prizes will be awarded for Best Overall as well as 2nd and 3rd place prizes.
