Dive Stop
New Melle, Missouri
The Dive Stop will open to the public on April 19, 2008, at 8 a.m. The facility does not have electric (scheduled for sometime the week of April 21st). As a result, they will only be taking cash and checks. For now, this also means no compressor.
The Dive Stop in New Melle, Missouri, with its opening in April 2008 will be St. Louis' newest local dive quarry. It is a spring-fed stone quarry located
just west of St. Louis and is approx. five acres.
Local divers might remember that this was once the quarry used by "Mid-America Diving." While the quarry has been unkept since 1991, the new owners have cleaned up the site and the goal is to make it a place that divers and families can come and play.
The Dive Stop is starting small: office trailer, canopies and a storage pod. However, they plan to have a permanent office building, a greeting area, storage and a training room by late 2009.
In addition, the future site might feature: camp sites, cabins, bigger training platforms, walking trails and running water.
Highlights:
Attractions: 32 ft. cabin cruiser, 16 ft. boat, Dodge truck, Ford truck, motorcycle, car as well as turtles, bass, crappie, blue gill and even a beaver.
