| PADI
Seal Team |
Cost: $150

The
PADI Seal Team program is an exciting underwater activity-filled
introduction to the world of diving. The PADI Seal Team
program gives children a chance to swim around underwater
and experience adventure, discovery and thrills. It
also provides parents or guardians with a structured
program that lets their children develop skills, learn
about the aquatic realm, and have a lot of good, clean
fun.
To
become an official members of the PADI Seal Team, kids
must complete the first five of 15 AquaMissions. These
activities develop fundamental scuba skills and knowledge,
while preparing kids for further adventure.
Children
learn about diving by watching the PADI Seal Team video,
through the PADI Seal Team AquaMission Activity Book,
and during predive briefings with their PADI Instructor.
Each AquaMission consists of a briefing, a skill session,
and a game or activity. Completing the pool dive and
answering challenge questions in their PADI Seal Team
AquaMission Logbooks earns young divers an AquaMission
decal.
Finishing
AquaMissions 1-5, which is equivalent to completing
the skills in Confined Water Dive One from the Open
Water Diver Course, means youngsters are PADI Seal Team
members. Receiving a PADI Seal Team member card and
wall certificate recognizes their accomplishments and
allows them to work toward PADI Master Seal Team recognition.
As
part of their PADI Seal Team membership, PADI Seals
have access to a special Website designed for young
divers at www.padisealteam.com.
There, young divers can learn more about the PADI Seal
Team through character bios and they can read about
the PADI Seal Team and Specialty AquaMissions. Kids
can check out links to padi.com
and projectaware.org.
Prerequisites:
Children must be 8 years old before the first day of
class and comfortable in the water
Parents must complete
and sign a PADI Seal Team Statement and Assumption of

| Boy Scouts: Scuba Award |
SCUBA BSA introduces qualified Boy Scout, Venturing, and registered adult participants to the special skills, equipment, and safety precautions associated with scuba diving. The program encourages aquatic activities that promote fitness and recreation and provides a foundation for those who later will participate in more advanced underwater activity.
The Scuba BSA experience contains two parts: Knowledge Development and Water Skills Development. During the first part, participants learn basic dive safety information and overview skills, such as mask clearing, regulator clearing, and alternate air source use.
Completion of Scuba BSA requirements sets the stage for additional training, but does not qualify the participant to dive independently, either in confined water or open water environments. Scuba BSA is not a diver certification, it's an experience.
Individuals completing the SCUBA BSA requirements qualify for a recognition card and patch. Y-kiki Divers PADI instructor(s) will complete the award applications for each troop member and the counselor or unit leader can then submit to the local council service center.
Y-kiki Divers will supply all scuba equipment: mask, snorkel, fins, tank, regulator, BCD, wetsuit, and weight belts.
Instruction & Equipment Use: $25 per person for groups of ten or less / $20 per person for groups of 10 or more.
Note: Participant(s) may provide their own pool at their expense provided it meets size and temperature requirements.

| Boy Scouts: Scuba Merit Badge |
So, as a Boy Scout, you've earned your BSA Scuba Award. What's next? Consider earning your Scuba Merit Badge! You will earn your PADI Open Water Scuba certification and open the door to new underwater adventures.
Unlike many other merit badges, the Scuba Diving prerequisites, knowledge, and skills are not all itemized in the requirements of the merit badge pamphlet. Interested scouts must first earn their Open Water Scuba certification through Y-kiki Divers or another scuba agency recognized by the Boy Scouts of America scuba policy in addition to completing the following requirements (which can be found in the merit badge pamphlet):
Requirements
1. Do the following:
a. Show that you know first aid for injuries or illnesses that could occur while scuba diving, including hypothermia, hyperventilation, squeezes, decompression illness, nitrogen narcosis, motion sickness, fatigue, overexertion, heat reactions, dehydration, injuries by aquatic life, and cuts and scrapes.
b. Identify the conditions that must exist before performing CPR on a person, and explain how to recognize such conditions. Demonstrate the proper technique for performing CPR using a training device approved by your counselor.
2. Before completing requirements 3 through 6, earn the Swimming merit badge.
3. Discuss the Scuba Diver’s Code with your merit badge counselor, and explain the importance of each guideline to a scuba diver’s safety.
4. Earn an Open Water Diver Certification from a scuba organization recognized by the Boy Scouts of America scuba policy.
5. Explain what an ecosystem is, and describe four aquatic ecosystems a diver might experience.
6. Find out about three career opportunities in the scuba industry. Pick one and find out the education, training, and experience required for this profession. Discuss this with your counselor, and explain why this profession might interest you.
NOTES:
Scuba industry standards for Open Water Diver Certification require the student to be at least 15 years of age. Students under the minimum age who meet open water scuba performance requirements may qualify for a special certification that allows them to dive with an adult buddy who has, as a minimum, an open water scuba certification. Several of the scuba organizations recognized by the BSA offer “junior” open water certifications for those as young as 10; others have a minimum age of 12. Such junior open water diver certifications satisfy Scuba Diving merit badge requirement 4.
Scouts who have already earned an Open Water Diver Certification outside of a BSA activity from a scuba agency recognized by the Boy Scouts of America scuba policy may still earn the Scuba Diving merit badge by earning the Swimming merit badge and completing all other listed requirements.

| Challenger Learning Center's Summer Space Adventures |
Y-kiki Divers works with the Challenger Learning Center assisting with two summer training camps. Kids don SCUBA to simulate the affects and challenges of working in space. The two programs include:
Advanced Astronaut Training Camp
Age: Students entering 5th-8th grades (must be at least 10 years old by first day of camp)
Session 1: July 9-13, 2012
Session 2: July 16-20, 2012
In this unique and engaging camp, participants will experience what it would be like to train as a real NASA astronaut. Activities will include mental and physical challenges as well as design competitions. In addition, advanced astronauts will learn basic SCUBA diving skills that will enable them to participate in a one-day underwater astronaut-training program. SCUBA training and gear is included in this camp.
Aquatic Robotics
Age: Ages 12 and up
Date: July 23-27, 2012
Make a splash this summer! Using devices such as soldering irons and rotary drills, participants will build their very own custom SeaPerch underwater rover/ROV and train to use it to explore aquatic environments. They will learn the basics of SCUBA and participate in a specially designed human/robot hybrid mission to collect and return mineral samples from a weightless landscape.
Check out Challenger Learning Center's website.
